Winter decorating ideas. Getting your home ready for the cooler months

It’s safe to say we all want our homes to be warm and welcoming. This rings true even more during the cooler months.

Autumn is the perfect time to get your home prepped for Winter. Swap out your lightweight throws for chunky ones, add that rug to your room you’ve been meaning to buy and stock up on wood for the fireplace.

Below are a few handy tips on how to get your home ready for the Winter months.

1. Not decorating related but, block out draughts. Since adding in weather strips to our doors and adding double glazing to our windows, we’ve noticed a huge difference in the retention of heat in our home. Be sure to check your windows and doors.

2. Add layers to your bed and sofa. Unless you like to keep things minimal, add cosiness with texture. Soft cushions and woolly throws make a difference.

3. Speaking of wool, how does your doona hold up? Wool keeps you toasty, so if you’re in need of extra warmth at night, invest in a quality doona.

4. Use lamps for ambience. Here in Victoria, it can get dark quite quickly during Winter months. Lamps help illuminate a room without overloading the area with light.

Now turn that lamp on, grab a cuppa and relax on the couch with a fluffy blanket and enjoy.
