2024 Australian Interior Design trends and how to use them in your home

Being one month into 2024, you would have seen some articles or posts about this years interior design trends. But do you know how to implement them into your home?

I’m sharing some ways on how to revamp your interior by adding a splash of some of this years interior design trends.

Coloured Grout

White and black grout have been common for years. If you’re planning a reno or home improvement project, consider coloured grout when tiling. This doesn’t mean you have to use pink grout with your white subway tile (although that could look amazing in the right space!). If you’re tiling your shower a deep blue for example, you could use a light blue grout instead of white for a modern, effective and ‘trendy’ look. Plus, if you don’t like it, use a grout pen to take it back to white.

Slow furniture

Sustainability is not trendy. It is something that everybody should contribute to. To be completely honest, I could not care less for department store furniture. Sure, they have some great value products and I will buy some things from there. But, when it comes to furniture, I want it to last. I’d rather spend the extra few hundred dollars and know I’m supporting ‘slow’ furniture and not mass produced, cheap knock offs.

If budget is an issue but you’re wanting to do some considerate shopping, search Facebook Marketplace. The amount of items I’ve sold and purchased through there is incredible.

Curves and texture

We’ve seen the curve come back for a little while now and I’m here to tell you that it’s not going anywhere. The thing with these curves is that you can modernise them. I’ve seen archways tiled with marble, amazing quality furniture with all the curves and in beautiful, modern colours and fabrics.

Speaking of fabric, texture is here to stay too! (Although if texture is ever considered ‘out’, I’d be very surprised).  When I think about textured fabrics, boucle is the first that comes to mind. It’s a fabric that you either love or hate. I personally like it in small doses such as an armchair, bench seat or soft furnishings. Texture in hard finishes like venetian plaster will also be seen in the interiors world this year, including other products like wallpaper.

There are other trends that will show up on your screens this year. If you’d like to incorporate some of these trends into your home and need some assistance, feel free to email me at chloe@designsbychloe.net. Plus, if you have something you’d like to learn about, let me know and I’ll look into for you.

Until next time!
