How to create cohesion in your home

Most of us want our homes to feel cohesive. Not ‘matchy-matchy’ but to have a consistent feel throughout different areas. Below are three ways you can create cohesion in your home and really level up your interior.

Choose your colour palette

Your colour palette will change over time. Once you've decided on a palette, continue that throughout your home. This may be using the same warm or cool tones through paint, flooring, furniture, art and soft furnishings.

This doesn't mean using the same green paint in every room. Instead you may use the same style of cabinetry knobs as your kitchen, for your bedside tables.

Find your design style

You don't have to stick to one design style in your home, however, mixing Scandi, Hamptons and Industrial in one setting could be a recipe for disaster.

Blending elements from different styles can work well if done correctly.

For example, deep Hamptons blue soft furnishings with Industrial door hardware and Scandi type styling pieces throughout the main areas of your home.

Consider sightlines

If you have an open plan area, cohesion is especially important.

If you have black light fittings over the kitchen bench and want to incorporate black in the dining & living areas without going overboard, opt for some black dining chairs with a timber table and a black floor lamp for the living area.

The idea is to have elements in each space that ties the open plan setting together.
